Joshua Morris was so irate that he had to be restrained by five police officers and at the police station he was found to be carrying two knives.

Morris, 20, of no fixed address, was jailed for six months when he appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

Judge Jim Tindal said that so serious was knife crime that he had no choice but to impose the sentence.

Mr John Oates, prosecuting, said a Police Community Support Officer was called out to Church Stretton train station just before 5pm on September 10 to reports of a man collapsed in a shelter.

He called for an ambulance and a first responder attended.

Morris started to respond but then became verbally abusive to the woman. There were fears he might stumble onto the train track and the PCSO called for assistance from British Transport police.

"It took five officers to restrain him," Mr Oates said.

"At the police station he was placed in a special cell because of fears for his safety.

"Officers found two knives on his person."

Mr Anthony Catrin, for Morris, said his client had been homeless in Shrewsbury when he was arrested.

"He spent much of his life in children's homes in the Plymouth area and developed drug and alcohol problems as well as mental health problems."

Judge Tindal said Morris' behaviour had been pretty appalling.

"I hope that you will get support but the rest of your life is in your own hands and you only have yourself to blame."
