Well over 100 roles have now been created by the ladder, which is backed by the Shropshire Star.

That number has now been bolstered again by the announcement that The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital is to provide six new apprenticeship opportunities in its medical records department.

The apprenticeships, in business administration, are available now for young people, ideally aged between 16 and 18 who are looking to start new careers within the NHS.

The Trust's Apprenticeship programme is well known for helping young people start successful careers and many apprentices have gone on to take full time positions.

Jamie Pugh, marketing officer at the Ladder for Shropshire, said: "Parents and students continue to call the Ladder regularly searching for apprenticeship opportunities which makes it incredibly important that we continue to provide exciting new opportunities which they can take advantage of.

"With young people currently making important decisions about their next steps when they leave school or college this summer, it is vitally important that apprenticeship opportunities like these are available to help with their transition in to work.

"Shropshire is below the national average in terms of the number of organisations offering apprenticeships and the Ladder for Shropshire is calling for more to come forward in time for this summer's recruitment."

Some of the apprentices' main duties will include registering new patients, checking patient appointments and supporting the medical secretaries by processing incoming mail.

These tasks go a long way to supporting trust staff and making sure patients are seen in a timely and professional manner.

Allen Edwards, training advisor at the trust, said: "The Apprenticeship programme is vitally important to us to and ensures that we have the skilled employees that we need for the future."

Mr Pugh added: "The Ladder for Shropshire continues to champion the Apprenticeship route and will be giving students the chance to experience a variety of different careers at its upcoming event Shropshire Apprenticeships Live! taking place on Monday March 14 at the Greenhous Meadow Shrewsbury between 3pm and 7pm.

"Thousands of Shropshire students and parents have already received personal invitations for what is promising to be Shropshire's largest Apprenticeship event to date."
