The improvements on Limekiln Bank roundabout, Priorslee, are aimed at increasing capacity in advance of proposed commercial and residential development.

It is part of an overall £17 million project involving six roundabouts.

The Limekiln Bank roundabout scheme includes widening the roundabout and improving the entry and exit arms. It will also see the installation of a signal-controlled crossing for pedestrians across Telford Way and replacement of street lighting, traffic signs and bollards.

Councillor Angela McClements, cabinet member for communities, regeneration and transport, said: "The Telford Growth Point Package will help ensure our road network can cope with traffic both now and over the next 20 years.

"Being able to deliver these roundabout improvements over the next 12 months makes excellent use of the funding we have secured.

"We want to encourage people to come here to live and work and to promote ourselves as a great location for businesses to base themselves. An excellent road network is a significant consideration."

She added: "I would like to apologise in advance for any disruption caused by the works but we will all benefit in the long run from an improved road network and better traffic flow."

The work will be done by local contractor McPhillips and will take 20 weeks to complete. It will start during half term to minimise disruption during the early part of the works.

It is part of a broader programme of works to improve six roundabouts across the borough, including Trench Lock, with work due to start in April, and at the Clock Tower roundabout, with work due to start in June.

All work should be completed by March 2017.

Meanwhile the M54 will face more overnight closures between junctions two and three westbound for clearance work. The carriageway and slip roads will be closed overnight between 11.30pm and 6am from Sunday to February 21.

Only one carriageway will be closed at any one time and a diversion route will be signposted.

The link road between the M6 and M54 will also be closed to northbound traffic while works to improve the junction is carried out.

The work will take place at Junction 10A over five nights from between 10pm to 6am from March 7.
