Pete Jandrell, from Albert Road, Oswestry, has written Shrewsbury Rose as a tribute to Shrewsbury Town, and said his dream would be to hear it sung from the stands of the Greenhous Meadow.

The 48-year-old singer songwriter uses the football club's motto, Floreat Salopia, in the lyrics, as well as paying reference to Sabrina – Latin for the River Severn.

He said: "The reference to the river is used as a metaphor for life's twists and turns, and up and downs. I think it's a real terrace song. I would love nothing more than for it to be sang from the terraces and I think with this game to look ahead to now, it's the perfect time for the song to be for the club."

Mr Jandrell, who is also a music teacher, said the title suggests a link to Shrewsbury Flower Show as well.

The song was initially written for Mr Jandrell's guitar students to play along with, but proved so popular he was persuaded to go into AMR Studios in Llanfyllin to record the song.

It was produced and mixed by his old friend Aled Roberts last summer.

"I will be of course backing Shrewsbury Town and this song is my way of that. It even includes the club's motto, so it's perfect," he said.

The musician has been performing with Shropshire groups and ensembles for 30 years, and during this time he has toured nationally and in Europe and performed his own compositions on BBC Radio One.

The fifth round tie will take place on February 22. The game will be screened live on BT Sport 2 with a 7.45pm kick-off. You can listen to the song on Spotify and iTunes.
