Cars, homes and holidays: Shropshire factory workers reveal shopping lists after scooping EuroMillions prize for second time

New cars, homes and holidays are on shopping list for a syndicate of pie factory workers who have won big on the EuroMillions – 10 years after they scooped £6.7 million.

Five of the lucky colleagues were also members of the November 2006 EuroMillions winning group from Palethorpe's Pie Factory who each shared a slice of a £6.7m prize pie.

Nearly 10 years later a 25-strong syndicate from the same department has won £303,465.20 from last Friday's draw. They will each receive more than £12,000.

The odds of matching five main numbers and one lucky star twice in that period stands at about three billion to one.

The syndicate celebrate their winnings

And one of these lucky five was Gary Parton, 49, from Market Drayton.

He said: "I was very shocked to find out we had won again. I couldn't believe it at first.

"Not sure what we are going to spend the money on – still letting the news sink in at the moment."

The syndicate are now looking forward to spending their winnings. The shopping lists include driving lessons, cars, a deposit on a house and three-piece suite.

Gary's brother David Parton, 52, from Cheswardine, also won his share of the prize fund and plans to spend it on a car.

He said: "Once we found out we had won on Friday night we did not sleep a wink. We were all so excited.

"My brother is a lucky bloke as he won previously. I felt like I had missed out before.

"Money doesn't bother me. All my wages go to my family and as long as they are happy, I am.

"I am going to spend the money on a new car as we desperately need one. Hopefully we will have enough left over for a holiday as well."

Back in November 2006, a 33-strong syndicate from the factory won £6,750,278.40 – £204,553.89 each – from a Lucky Dip ticket bought at One Stop, Shrewsbury Road, Market Drayton.

Fast forward to 2016 and five members of the original winning syndicate are part of a new syndicate that is based in the same department as the lucky 2006 winners.

Gary, who has been working at Palethorpes for 32 years, added: "We only enter when there is a big rollover. We don't enter every week.

"I haven't spent my last winnings yet – they are safely stored away in a savings account ready for when I retire.

"So this time I might treat the family or add it to the savings.

"It is great that some of the people who did not win last time were lucky this time round. The B team are a real family and we are certainly going to party now. We are going to enter again and hope for third time lucky."

Another lucky winner was 55-year-old Carol Bonner.

She said: "I am going to treat my two grandchildren. Hopefully I can buy all my family a holiday and save the rest.

"When I heard we had won I was so happy. It is great news. Time to celebrate now."

The lucky dip was bought at Morrisons, Maer Lane, Market Drayton, and the winning EuroMillions numbers were 1, 5, 23, 29, 32 and the Lucky Stars were 1 and 7.

Each member is now looking forward to tucking into their slice of the pot, worth £12,138.60.

Syndicate leader Mary Viggers, 60, was also one of the original five winners.

She said: "I feel very lucky. I can't believe that lightning has struck twice. Some of the same members, the same department, the same room even – it is just unbelievable."

Mary was at home when she found out about the win.

She said: "I was watching the TV and decided to check the numbers that were bought just a few hours earlier. I counted 1,2,3,4,5 and closed my eyes wondering if a Lucky Star or two would appear.

"Then one of them did and I couldn't believe it. I showed my husband Peter, who as usual was nice and calm, and then I called two of the other syndicate members to ask them to check the tickets because they have copies."

Within 10 minutes, fellow syndicate member and shift manager Gary popped in to Mary's house to confirm the numbers.

Mary added: "Everyone was so shocked. They could not believe that we had done it again.

"My mum said I was born to be lucky and rich, as I have a gap in my front teeth. Turns out she was right.

"We want to keep on trying and will keep entering as now we are on a winning streak. Fingers crossed for next time."
