Derren Jon Tomlinson, 44, admitted a charge of rape of a girl under the age of 13 as well as one count of sexual assault of a child under the age of 13.

At Shrewsbury Crown Court today Tomlinson also admitted one charge of bestiality, when the court heard he pleaded guilty to having sex with a dog.

The police community support officer, of Riverdale Road in Shrewsbury, was remanded in custody and the case was adjourned for sentencing on March 21.

Tomlinson was suspended from his role as a PCSO with West Mercia Police on November 25.

The court heard the offences took place in October last year.

Speaking after the court hearing, chief superintendent Charles Hill said: "These abhorrent acts have understandably caused a huge amount of shock and distress.

"As soon as information regarding these offences came to light Derren Tomlinson was arrested and a comprehensive investigation was launched in order to bring him to justice.

"We now await the sentencing before issuing any further comment."
