Telford & Wrekin Council's planning committee voted to defer a decision on Sean Saward's application at a meeting last night. , It is hoped the move will give the project a chance to come to fruition.

It comes despite the authority's officers recommending the plans for refusal.

Mr Saward funded work on Halfway House unaware he needed planning permission, replacing brickwork with timber cladding, putting in new dormer windows and putting up an outbuilding for a vending machine.

He then submitted a retrospective planning application after learning he had fallen foul of the rules.

It is now hoped that discussions will take place between Mr Saward and officers to reach an agreement on the scheme.
