Watch: Pride of Shropshire Awards 2016 opens for entries

Entries are now open for the 2016 Pride of Shropshire Awards as we look to reward those unsung heroes that make Shropshire so special.

We want to hear about the individuals and organisations who go the extra mile when it comes to serving others. In short, the people who make us proud of our county.

It is the ninth year the Shropshire Star has run the awards, and during this time we have heard countless heart-warming stories about acts of courage and selfless service.

Shropshire Star editor Martin Wright said: "The Pride of Shropshire Awards are always one of the highlights of the year.

"It is about celebrating those people who often don't get the recognition they deserve, but play a huge role in making our county the great place that it is."

2015's overall winners Annie Hambley and Karen Higgins with Chris Scott

Last year Annie Hambley and Karen Higgins were presented with both the People's Champion award and the overall winner title at the ceremony.

They are the founders of the Big Busk, which is held in Shrewsbury each year in memory of their brother Ben Bebbington who was killed in the town.
