Mohammad Lachu Miah, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene of a collision on the A41 at Tong, near Shifnal, on Sunday.

He was travelling in a Toyota Yaris with two other passengers, the hearing at Wellington Civic Centre heard yesterday.

Mr Miah, of Primrose Avenue in Birmingham, was trapped in the vehicle and suffered multiple injuries before being pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. A post mortem examination was unable to confirm the exact cause of death.

Two other people were also rushed to hospital following the collision. Mr John Ellery, coroner of Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, adjourned the inquest until May 17 at Wellington Civic Centre.

Police closed the road for several hours after the collision between the Toyota Yaris and what was thought to be a Mini. However, the inquest was told three vehicles had been involved in the crash.

John Hawker, of West Midlands Ambulance Service, said a man who had suffered "multiple serious injuries" had died at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics who provided "advanced life support".

A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the crash. He has been bailed until February 18.
