Shropshire university probes campus strip show

Harper Adams University today said it has launched an investigation into an event that involved adult entertainers and female students.

The show, organised by the Students Union, has caused controversy after images emerged of strippers performing on stage to a baying crowd.

At one stage students were picked out of the crowd and asked to take part in sexually suggestive games.

They were said by onlookers to be "completely embarrassed" and the show was described as being more suitable for drunken holidaymakers in Magaluf than university students in Shropshire.

Today the agricultural university said it did not condone such activities, and said it will consider "appropriate sanctions".

A spokesman from Harper Adams University said: "On Friday evening an event involving professional adult entertainers was held by our students union on their premises. "The university does not condone such activities and is in discussions with the students union, and several other students, to investigate what happened and so that it might consider appropriate sanctions.

"We wish to emphasise that we regard this as a serious matter and that our principal concern is for the safety and well-being of our students."

A post on the student union's Facebook page on Friday encouraged students to attend the free shows. It said it was planning an event that featured male and female dancers.

It stated: "Today is one of my favourite nights in the Harper calendar.

"First we have the male dancers, they kick off at 8pm. Then we have female dancers who start at 10pm.

"This is a night not to be missed, it always ends well. It's free entry for everyone!!!!"

Nobody from the students union at the university, near Newport, was available for comment.
