Cyclist dies during road race in Telford

A cyclist died during a road race following what was believed to be a medical episode, police say.

The 52-year-old man was cycling along the B5063 towards Telford on Sunday.

When he was near to the junction with the B5062 near Cotwall Farm, at Cotwall, he left the bike and collided with a hedge where he was found by other road users.

The man was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

It took place at about 12.30pm.

It is believed that the man had suffered a medical episode but officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information which would help them with their enquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident 0292S of January 24.
