Telford & Wrekin Council defended over A&E campaign cash
A senior councillor today said Telford & Wrekin Council had nothing to apologise for after coming under attack for pledging tens of thousands of pounds to a campaign to save the borough's A&E unit.
Councillor Shaun Davies said the authority believed the A&E units at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Telford's Princess Royal should remain open – but if one had to go then Telford's should be retained.
It comes after Shrewsbury MP Daniel Kawczynski called for a debate in the House of Commons over using taxpayers' money for such a campaign. Councillors in Telford recently announced they would pledge money to an A&E 4 PRH campaign.
Councillor Davies said on Twitter: "It's the job of Telford & Wrekin to stand up for interests of the borough and our residents. We won't apologise for that to anyone."
