Twin Peakes: Space enthusiasts suffer crossed wires with Shropshire gymnastics man

One is employed by British gymnastics in Shropshire, the other is floating out of this world.

But that hasn't stopped people getting confused by Tim Peake and his slightly more famous namesake.

Tim Peake 1 is a press officer, who represents British Gymnastics based at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

He has described himself as an 'alleged spaceman' on Twitter and has issued a number of emoji-packed tweets sending up the fact he has the same name as the British space hero.

From the account @Tim Peaky, he tweeted:

Yesterday he posted on Twitter:

His followers have since rocketed to more than 500 – although it is still a long way off astronaut Tim Peake 2, who has 192,000 Twitter followers at @astro_timpeake

The astronaut has now boarded the International Space Station, which will be his home for the next six months. Peake 2, or Major Tim Peake to give him his full title, joined fellow crew members, Russian Yuri Malenchenko and American Tim Kopra in floating through the hatch from their Soyuz space capsule.

The three new passengers arrived at the space platform following a six-hour journey after launch from Kazakhstan on Tuesday.

Major Peake does have a link with Shropshire – he is a graduate of RAF Shawbury. RAF Shawbury station commander Group Captain Jason Appleton said the test pilot qualified as a helicopter instructor in 1998.
