Acid victim taken to hospital

A man was taken to hospital after he was hit in the face by acid leaking from a container.

The industrial accident happened at a rural west Shropshire business near Chirbury at about 11.15am. A small amount of acid is believed to have hit the man in the face, but the full extent of his injuries are not yet known.

A Midlands Air Ambulance helicopter was sent to the scene, but in the end the man was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

Lois Hough, speaking for Welsh Ambulance Service, said: "We were called to reports a man had been injured in an industrial incident in the Chirbury area.

"We sent one emergency ambulance to the scene, and the man was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital."

Fire crews from Bishop's Castle, Clun, Prees and Tweedale were also sent to the scene, along with an environmental protection unit.

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "A small amount of acid leaked from container onto a casualty who was treated by ambulance personnel."

The incident was dealt with by 11.45am, he said.
