Shropshire sign damage youths tracked down after appeal in the Star

An appeal in the Shropshire Star has led to youths who tried to damage a road sign in Much Wenlock being identified.

A group of youths attempted to cause damage to a road sign in Stretton Road on the evening of November 20.

A passing member of the public spoke to them and they answered with abusive language and gestures before making off from the area.

PCSO Mal Goddard attended the scene and spoke to the member of the public concerned, but unfortunately they had not been able to get a good look at those involved and an area search yielded nothing.

A follow-up patrol to the area and liaison with the local council, identified that no damage had been done to the sign.

A release to the media was then made by the Safer Neighbourhood Team for Broseley and Much Wenlock and, as a result of this, the Shropshire Star ran a news article about the incident.

Following the appearance of the article and tweets about the incident, West Mercia Police received information that led to the youths being identified.

PCSO Goddard said the youths were then dealt with appropriately for their behaviour, using a collaborative approach with their school.
