Crowds gathered at the Bailey Head as choirs from local schools provided musical entertainment on the stage outside the town's Guildhall.

The 11-strong choir from Our Lady's & St Oswald's School sang songs they have been fine tuning for their Christmas play.

Felicity Davies, aged nine, said: "We've only been practicing for two days but it's for the Christmas play at school so it's good to sing it in front of a lot of people. It was lots of fun."

After performances by Bellan House, Holy Trinity, Our Lady & St Oswald's, Meadows and Woodside primary schools, and Marches secondary school, the Derwen College Makaton Choir got the whole crowd singing along as they performed a medley from Frozen, setting the stage for the appearance of the stars of the show to switch on the lights.

Oswestry-based actor Malcolm Lord, who played Bungle in Rainbow, said: "Bungle is thrilled because he hasn't done a lights switch on for a few years. Whenever he did it, George and Zippy would be there too, and Zippy would always press the button."

Mayor, Peter Cherrington, got more than he bargained for when he joined the bear on stage. Bungle asked the crowd to join in singing "I'm a little teapot" – with the mayor leading the actions. Councillor Cherrington said: "It was an absolutely brilliant event."
