Police boats and divers were out in force today along stretches of the river looking for the missing man, who is believed to be in his 20s.

The alarm was raised at 7.20pm on Tuesday night by a concerned passer-by that a man had got into difficulties after trying to swim across the river close to the former Dana Prison.

The police helicopter was joined by boats and search teams late into the night looking for the man.

Searches resumed yesterday as far as Atcham but no sign of him was found.

Today searches continued close to the weir in the Castlefields area of the town. Divers entered the water around lunchtime and scoured the area for any sign of the man.

Inspector Claire Greenaway from West Mercia Police said: "We have continued our search, focusing on the area from the railway bridge to the weir. We will continue to search and appeal for information in helping to locate the missing man."

Anyone with any information should call 101 quoting incident number 06525 of 10 November 2015.
