Shropshire Council is to begin the process of assessing responses to its five-month consultation on Shrewsbury's swimming pool.

There were more than 2,000 responses over the course of the consultation which closed last Friday.

Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council's cabinet member responsible for leisure services, has reiterated that a decision on where the pool will be based will not be taken until next year.

Options included retaining or revamping it on the current Quarry site or finding a new site in the town.

He said: "Firstly I would like to thank everyone who has taken their time to respond to the Shrewsbury swimming pool consultation and let us know their views on the proposed options.

"As we've said previously all options are equal, and they all have their pros and cons – there is no preferred option.

"We are hugely encouraged by the amount of interest shown and it proves that on-going public swimming provision in Shrewsbury is hugely valued. We will ensure that every single comment is taken into consideration before any decision is made by cabinet on how swimming provision is delivered over the next 25 years.

"There is a considerable amount of analysis to be undertaken and it is unlikely that any decision will be taken before early 2016."
