Rachel Macgregor took to Facebook in a bid to find out more about how the West Highland terrier had got to Wigan.

She took him to vets and his chip was linked to an address in Telford but the contact number was no longer in use.

Hundreds of people shared her post online and since then she has revealed that the dog had been reunited with his owner.

Her online appeal for help said: "I found this dog today by the BP petrol station in Pemberton, Wigan.

"He had no collar on, was soaked and filthy.

"I've taken him to the vets and he is chipped to an address in Telford, but the contact number is no longer in use.

"I've taken him home and bathed him, he has has quite a bad skin condition.

"Can all my friends share this to try and get him back home?"
