Another night of closures to hit M54 drivers

Motorists will face another night of closures on the M54 as more work is due to be carried out.

Signs on the westbound carriageway at Junction 3 for Cosford say the motorway will be closed between October 26 and 29 for overnight work.

Highways chiefs said the road is only expected to be closed for one night while work is carried out on the central reservation.

It comes as motorists last night faced delays on the outskirts of Shrewsbury during rush hour on the A5 between the Edgebold and Dobbies islands.

Highways England said it was due to traffic sensors being removed for resurfacing work and warned delays could continue until the weekend.

Alistair Harris, spokesman for Highways England, said: "The M54 will be closed for one night this month while work is carried.

"The work will involve sealing the central reservation as well as filling in a pothole. The signs state it will be closed for a few days, but that is a precaution in case the weather means we have to wait a day or two."

Motorists were put through months of misery while resurfacing work was carried out on the M54 from November 2014 until July this year.

The improvements were meant to finish in April but was delayed due to weather conditions and work needed on the central reservation.

Highways England confirmed earlier this year there would be a series of overnight closures as finishing touches were carried out.
