Ellesmere roadworks could last a fortnight

Roadworks lasting up to two weeks are set to start in Ellesmere town centre.

Work is set to start on Monday at the A495 Willow Street and Sparbridge roundabout.

Residents have been sent letters telling them the road will be closed while "essential" road resurfacing is carried out.

Contractors will carry out work overnight from 7pm to 7am to minimise disruption. It is hoped the work will be completed within seven days but it could overrun subject to weather and other circumstances.

Access to properties will be available and emergency services will be allowed through during the closures.

Councillor Ian Ward, mayor of Ellesmere, said: "It is inevitable that there will be some disruption. They (Shropshire Council and consultants Mouchel) did come to the town council to try and make sure they minimised disruption as much as possible. There will be diversion routes in place and Traffic will still be able to get through in the daytime."

It comes after a series of roadworks were carried out in Wem in recent weeks.

Leek Street was closed for a gas main to be replaced, while resurfacing took place on the B5063 from the town to the A49 at Preston Brockhurst, near Bankhouse Lane at the end of High Street and along Shawbury Road.
