Officers were called after members of the public raised concerns about illegal parking.

Crowds were attracted to the landmark yesterday because of the fine weather, but the car park at the base of the hill was full.

The double yellow lines were put at the base of The Wrekin as a safety measure because of the numbers of dog walkers and families with small children in the area.

Meanwhile, a driver who was arrested after speeding at 137mph on a motorway told police he was in a rush to see his children – at 1.20am.

The motorist was stopped by officers on the M6 north between junction 14 for Stafford and junction 15 for Newcastle-under-Lyme, early yesterday.
