People living along Old Farm Lane in Lilleshall said they were barely able to walk along the road due to the amount of muck that has been left behind – and some claim that their cars have been covered in filth.

Mike Ridley said even Limekiln Lane, the main route through the area, had also been covered in dirt.

Mr Ridley, who has lived in Lilleshall for 33 years, said: "Farmers are spreading excrement on their fields and we've had two huge trailers up and down the road and not cleaning up.

"The lane is awash with excrement and mud, you can barely stand up in it.

"I spoke to a lady who lives in a house on the corner and she was distraught, it is not just the dirt but it is the smell."

He added: "We all live with it because we do live in the country so you're used to some smell and mess, but this is the worst that I've seen in all the time I've been here."

The muck spreading has been going on around the village for a number of weeks, residents claim.

But the main problems on the village road began last weekend, with the bulk of mud being left on the road then.

"It is feared that the mess could cause an accident when cars are forced to drive through it.

Villagers have been in contact with Telford & Wrekin Council and the police about the matter, and have been told that contact has been made with the farmers and contractors believed to be responsible in a bid to get some of the mess cleaned off the roads.

Mr Ridley said: "The smell is appalling.

"Whoever is responsible needs to take action and clear it up.

"There is such a simple solution – all it needs is a shovel to clear off the tyres before they come to drive through the village.

"Hopefully other farmers will see the mess it leaves behind and maybe do something about it.

"It is horrible."
