Man tries to steal woman's handbag at Telford shopping centre

A man tried to make off with a woman's handbag while she walked alone in the centre of Telford.

Police are asking for people to come forward with information following the attempted robbery outside Southwater in the town centre.

The woman, a 23-year-old woman, became aware of a man walking behind her. He then grabbed her shoulder and tried to engage her in conversation.

The victim did not respond, causing the man to shout at her.

He then tried to take the woman's handbag, but failed so he ran off in the direction of Telford International Centre.

The woman was not injured.

The offender is described as an Asian man, between 25 and 50 years of age with messy black hair and a long beard.

The man is thought to be approximately 5ft 9in tall and was wearing a green polo shirt and black trousers.

The attempted robbery happened last Friday, September 4, between 1pm and 1.30pm.
