But residents need not fear – the marauding shipmates will be in Market Drayton for a parade as part of the town's medieval fair.

Final preparations are being made for the fair, which will take place on Saturday. It will feature live music, fancy dress, a slaying of a dragon and storytelling.

Shepleys Butchers on Shrewsbury Road is marking the occasion by creating medieval recipes. Owner Scott Shepley is planning wild ox, red wine and cranberry sausages in honour of the event.

Tim Beckett, publicity spokesman for the event, said: "Everything is pretty much all sorted and we are hoping for a good turnout. All the costumes are ready and our sponsors have helped fund it."

He added the event is raising awareness of children with asthma problems. David Hillidge, who lives in the town and has co-ordinated the event, said: "This is an independently-run community event and is not associated with any past event.

"It is going to be family friendly, non-profit making and alcohol free."

Previous organisers of the fair announced in May that they would have to pull the plug on this year's event after being unable to find financial help.

But itis returning after a new committee of volunteers came forward.

It will be held on Cheshire Street and the road will be closed from 6am to 6pm.
