The devastated brother of a motorcyclist killed in a crash on the A49 in Shropshire has called for safety measures to be brought in – just days after another fatal accident on the road.

Callum Burns wants the speed limit to be brought down to 40mph along the stretch of the road between Hadnall and Preston Brockhurst. It comes after 32-year-old Sebastian Ward, from Wem, died in a three-car crash in the area on Wednesday.

Mr Burns, 24, said the latest crash happened half a mile from his house and said he would consider setting up a petition to get changes along the main route in a bid to improve safety measures.

His older brother Merrick, 27, died after a crash at the Grinshill junction on June 8.

Mr Burns said: "On the long stretch coming out of Hadnall, people think you can overtake safely but there are S-bends and a hidden dip.

"The road needs to be 40mph all the way through to make it safer. Or if not, there needs to be a sign warning people to make people realise it is a dangerous road."

Floral tributes have been paid to Mr Ward, believed to be the owner of Seb Ward Car Sales based on the A49, outside his business.

Mr Ward was driving a Ford Ka when he was involved in a collision with two Vauxhall Movano vans.

One tribute left by the road said: "A genuinely lovely man who will be sadly missed. May you rest in peace. My thoughts are with your family at this tragic time."

Another said: "You will always be in our thoughts. Deepest sympathy."

Hundreds also posted tributes on Mr Ward's Facebook page by his friends and family.

Glenn Pinson posted: "I'm so sorry to hear your sad news. Thinking of you at this sad time. He was a good man."

Lizzie Jolie Townsend said: "It can't be true I spoke to him today. I'm so sorry he was a top top guy with a massive massive heart."

Andy Davies wrote: "Devastated doesn't come close, such a genuinely nice friend. We will miss you so much mate sleep tight, god bless, RIP thinking of all your family."

The inquest on Mr Ward will open on Wednesday at 9.30am at Telford Register Office in Wellington. Police have today renewed their appeal for witnesses to Wednesday's crash. Call 101 quoting incident number 381s of August 26.
