The Ocean Film Festival World Tour will come to Shrewsbury next week, showing a range of movies about water.

Originating in Australia, the festival will feature a new selection of ocean-themed short films.

The world tour showcases more than two hours of footage taken above and below the water's surface.

The films document the power of the ocean and celebrate divers, surfers, swimmers and oceanographers.

Pip Bayley, a spokesman for Theatre Severn, said: "The festival is a really great way to open our new season, the films are so diverse and exciting.

"The Foundry restaurant is putting a special fish supper on their menu to celebrate the event and Shrewsbury's Sub Aqua Club will be in the venue in case anyone is inspired and wants to have a go themselves.

"It's a great way to enjoy the wonders of the world's oceans without having to bring a towel."

The films include Devocean, the story of how the open water helped a man recover from an accident that left him paraplegic.

The festival will be held on September 2 at Theatre Severn. The tour comes to the UK following a successful first run in 2014. Shrewsbury is one of 24 towns and cities across the country to be showing the selection of short films.

To mark the showing, Theatre Severn is also running a photography competition asking theatregoers to submit photographs on the theme of "water" with the winner receiving a free pair of tickets for the event and a meal for two in the theatre's Foundry restaurant.

The closing date is this weekend and entries can be submitted via Theatre Severn's Facebook page.
