Trains between Shrewsbury and Crewe were delayed by 25 minutes after an equipment fault at the level crossing on Aston Street which happened at about 12noon.

The barriers were closed for over an hour while engineers try to fix the issue.

A spokesperson for Network Rail, Hannah McCarthy said: "There has been an equipment fault and so the barriers have gone into the fail position which is down."

The fault comes less than two weeks after the barriers slammed shut for an hour last Monday.

The barriers have re-opened.
