Witnesses wanted after motorcyclist suffers serious head injuries in crash

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious crash in Market Drayton, involving a Suzuki motorcycle and a Vauxhall Corsa.

Emergency services, including two air ambulances, were called to the junction of the A53 with Gravelly Hill, near to Loggerheads, at 3.50pm on July 30, following a report of a serious collision which resulted in the Corsa ending up on its roof.

The motorcyclist, a 21-year-old man from Market Drayton, was treated at the scene by paramedics and medics from the air ambulance for serious head and leg injuries, before being taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital where his condition is described as stable.

The driver of the Vauxhall, a 57-year-old woman, also from Market Drayton, was trapped upside down in the vehicle before being released by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service. She was taken to the Royal Stoke Hospital where she was treated for chest injuries.

The road remained closed for four hours whilst specialist officers from the Regional Collision Investigation Unit examined the scene. Officers would like to thank motorists for their patience whilst the road remained closed.

Witnesses are asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 543 of July 30.
