Market Drayton safer neighbourhood team, which is made up of police and other agencies, will be tackling anti-social behaviour over the summer holidays.

Pc Mick Sturland said anti-social behaviour has always been evident in the town since he came to post, eight years ago.

He added: "Problem is that because Drayton is a small market town, it is more evident than say, Stoke on Trent, where the problems can be diluted.

"That aside, any anti-social behaviour is unacceptable and causes communities harm.

"The team has a remit to tackle anti-social behaviour where it exists, but we cannot do that alone.

"We often work with partners such as Shropshire Council, to tackle issues and we have a range of powers at our disposal such as mobile CCTV to capture what is going on and gather evidence as well as powers to require persons to leave an area where anti-social behaviour is taking place.

"However, often, we find that words of advice followed up by a letter to parents of those responsible is sufficient as often parents have no idea what their children are up to.

"We keep a register of persons responsible for anti-social behaviour so that any patterns can be dealt with."

Pc Sturland advised children over the summer holidays to think before they act.

He added: "Our advice to any children during the summer recess, is to consider their actions and behaviour and what consequences that has on others.

"Would they like that behaviour to be directed at their family? How would they feel if it was?"
