Organisers of an annual music festival that draws thousands of visitors have cancelled this year's event after failing to find a venue in time.

The Shrewsbury Fields Forever festival was held on the West Mid Showground for four years.

But festival organisers Forever Invasion were told they could no longer use the site after being unable to resolve contractual differences with the showground's owners, the Shropshire and West Midlands Agricultural Society.

Next month's planned event has had to be called off and Forever Invasion are instead planning to revive the festival in July 2016.

Last year about 16,000 music fans attended the three-day event.

"We had artists booked for the 2015 show and we have been able to move them to the 2016 festival," said Dene Edwards, from Forever Invasion. We are already planning for a superb show.

"We can only apologise to those looking forward to the September date and who have made plans to attend. But we must stress that we did not want this to happen and wouldn't want to put on a show not reaching the expected level of quality festival-goers deserve. Moving a few months down the line gives us more time to organise and provide a truly remarkable show in a follow-up to 2014's incredible event."

Lance Jackson, chairman of the trustees of the Shropshire and West Midlands Agricultural Society said: "Unfortunately certain contractual obligations were not met.

"We had meetings with Mr Edwards about this and the matter was not resolved. We gave him many opportunities to work his way around the problems but he did not. We would have been pleased to find a way for him to continue to hold the festival at the showground."
