Thefts have taken place around Ludlow, Church Stretton and Bridgnorth, and police have urged anyone with information to come forward and told residents to make sure their homes and outbuildings are secure.

In Ludlow, a house in Charlton Rise was broken into and jewellery stolen some time between Friday and Sunday.

Over the same weekend, some time between Friday and Monday, a room containing works of art at a house in Castle Street was broken into, and a detached workshop and storage container at another house on the same street was also burgled, with powered gardening equipment and other tools stolen.

On Saturday residents on Downton View reported a house had been broken into while the occupants were away, though it is not yet known if anything was taken.

The occupants of a house on Tollgate Road also reported they found their property had been broken into when they returned from holiday on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in the Church Stretton area tools were taken from the old railway station building at Harton, near Ticklerton, overnight between Sunday and Monday.

Two garden sheds were broken into on Park Way, Church Stretton, between 11pm on Monday and Tuesday morning. A lawn mower and hedge trimmer were taken.

There were similar break-ins in the Bridgnorth area. Thieves got into a farmyard and large shed at Romsley between 10pm on Friday and Saturday morning and made off with a large quantity of power tools and a trailer.

On the same night at about midnight, outbuildings at a farm on Romsley Lane, near Alveley, were broken into, but the owner's dog was woken up.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "Police are asking residents to remain vigilant. Please ensure you keep valuable tools out of sight lock buildings, fit good security lights and alarms where possible.

"If you have CCTV look at using it to cover your sheds and outbuilding as well as the house.

"Remember, sheds that are not attached to homes or are out of sight at the bottom of a garden can be quite vulnerable.

"Look at making sure that your boundary fences and hedges are in good condition and grow shrubs such as Firethorn or Hawthorne in your hedges."

Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the areas mentioned around the time of the burglaries should contact police on 101.
