Oswestry Show gears up to open gate

Final preparations were today under way for one of the region's biggest agricultural shows, with more than 10,000 people expected to flock through the gates.

Oswestry Show will be held at the showground at Park Hall tomorrow, with people from across the area set to attend.

Malcolm Roberts, chairman of the show, said he expects the event to give a huge boost to the town. He said: "More than 10,000 people are set to attend. The value of the showground to the market town of Oswestry is enormous.

"Our visitors spent money in the town whether it is filling up their vehicles, buying food in the shops, getting a taxi into town or enjoying a meal in a pub or restaurant."

Attractions this year include the grand parade of livestock, a sheep shearing competition, horticultural art, trade stands, a craft marquee and food hall.

There will also be vintage cars, motorcycles, farm machinery, YFC competitions, It's a Knockout-style fun, a funfair and a model steam railway. Mr Roberts added: "

The village green will again be buzzing with activities and entertainment."
