Telford big cat 'was the size of a sofa'

A person who reported seeing a black panther roaming the streets of a housing estate in Telford late at night told police it was the size of a sofa.

Police Community Support Officer Chris Barrett, of the Brookside Safer Neighbourhood Team for West Mercia Police, said an appeal for witnesses had been launched following the call.

He added: "The person described it as being of 'sofa' size. Officers checked the area with no trace."

Officers took to Twitter after receiving the call, tweeting:

"We received an anonymous call stating that there was a large black panther wandering in Beaconsfield."

Anyone with information is urged to call police on the non-emergency 101 number.
