Damage was caused to the Tanning Lounge, in Shropshire Street, after the burglars broke through the back doors.

They stole the shop's safe which had £1,500 in it and took two power tools sometime between 7pm on Monday and 8am today.

Chris Rollinson, owner of the shop, discovered the break-in when he arrived at work. The store was closed for most of today.

Mr Rollinson said: "They bashed through the back door which had three locks on it.

"It will cost quite a bit to replace the three locks and increase the security now.

"They stole £1,500. Normally we would not store that much money here but because I own the bed shop which is closing down we moved all the takings from that shop into our secure safe.

"However the burglars took the whole safe which was bolted to the floor and wall.

"They also took two power tools – a jigsaw and a 180 watt cordless drill.

"Both have my initials CNR marked on them and a SY post code so they are distinctive. Both had new batteries in them as well.

"I hope the culprits are found soon. We have been here for five years now and never had a problem before."
