However, Shropshire Community Health Trust responded that there were "no plans to reduce beds at Ludlow Hospital this week."
Portcullis GPs said they were last week informed by Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust in a staff briefing that Stretton Ward is to be closed and only Dinham ward will continue to have inpatient beds at the hospital.

Dr Catherine Beanland said: "Portcullis GPs would like to make clear to the public that we certainly did not initiate this idea and that we were not consulted regarding this change merely informed with a week's notice."

Andy Roges, spokesman for the Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust, said: "From Friday, 31 July, we will be bringing all of our inpatient beds at Ludlow Hospital onto one clinical area."
