Cyril Sydney Leather, 83, had been walking along the A49 near his home in Ludlow Road, Little Stretton, when he was involved in a collision with a blue Nissan Micra, the inquest at Wellington Register Office was told. Mr Leather died from cardiac arrest in the ambulance before he reached Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

The collision at about 4.30pm on November 30 was the second fatal accident along that stretch of road in 11 days.

Son Andrew Leather said his father, who was known as Syd, was a keen walker.

The driver of the Nissan, 70-year-old Joshua Anthony Fielden, of Priory Gardens, Ludlow, said he had not seen Mr Leather before the crash.

Alexander Laming, the driver of the BMW car behind, said visibility was severely restricted. Sgt Neil Williams said it would have been difficult for Mr Fielden to have seen Mr Leather.

Senior Coroner Mr John Ellery ruled that Mr Leather had died from multiple injuries due to a road traffic collision.
