Lorry and van crash blocks A49 near Shrewsbury

A man was treated for head injuries after a collision between a lorry and a van near Shrewsbury today.

Emergency services were called to the A49 near Dorrington shortly before 4pm.

Three fire engines from Shrewsbury and Wellington attended the scene as well as two ambulances and a paramedic officer.

A man in his 40s was assisted from one of the vehicles by fire service personnel.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We received the call at 3.55pm and sent two ambulances and a paramedic officer.

"One man in his 40s was fortunate. He had lacerations to his head and was treated on scene by a paramedic and discharged."

Fire crews left the scene just after 4.15pm.
