Kevin Harris kicked out at his victim, causing her to fall to the floor and land on her wrist after she had slapped him during a heated row at the home they shared.

Harris, of Lancaster Road, Shrewsbury, had admitted assault occasioning grievous bodily harm at a previous hearing and appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court on Thursday for sentencing.

Prosecutor Mr Paul Spratt said the couple split up following the assault on November 23 last year.

Harris was sentenced to 14 months in prison, but the term was suspended for a period of two years.

He was also ordered to pay the victim £1,500 compensation and must also foot the bill for the £750 court costs.

Recorder Timothy Raggatt QC ordered Harris should be supervised by the probation service for 12 months and take part in a programme on domestic violence.
