Benjamin and Barnaby Prior, from Hilton, near Bridgnorth, came away from the World Egg Throwing and Catching Championships in first place.

Forty adult teams entered the annual competition in Lincolnshire last month, starting 10 metres apart to throw and catch the uncooked eggs, before steadily increasing the distance by a further 10 metres after each successful catch.

Ben, 14, and his father, Tim, were eliminated at the 40 metre distance in the senior competition, along with Barnaby, 12, and his own throwing partner, to come equal third. The eventual winners caught their eggs successfully at just over 50 metres.

Ben and Barnaby, who attend Old Swinford Hospital School in Stourbridge, then entered the junior under-14s competition – and with Ben throwing and Barnaby catching they eventually won the final with a 30-metre effort to become the World Egg Throwing Champions 2015.

Tim said he first got into the egg throwing about eight years ago after taking part in the Church Stretton Agri Sports Night.

"One of the events was egg throwing and catching – and we were quite good," he said.

"A few months ago I had one of those moments where I fancied having another go so I searched for egg throwing competitions online and found the world championships."

The event sees teams from Ireland, Australia, Bulgaria, Holland and the UK competing in the rally each year.
