Council officials said there was a real party atmosphere in the Telford town, with the sun shining throughout Saturday.

Councillor Stephen Reynolds, town mayor, said the event was a real asset to the town.

He said: "It has been a brilliant day.

"The atmosphere has been great and thousands of people have flocked to the carnival.

"The turnout has been excellent – not just with Oakengates people but people from all over the region.

"We are very lucky to have such a great event in our town.

"It is a really fantastic day.

"It seems to be growing in popularity every year and also this year the excellent weather has helped bring more people out.

"The team who have expertly organised this have done an excellent job – I cannot thank them enough."

Live music, a parade with floats, marching bands and a funfair was laid on for residents and visitors to enjoy.

The procession then started at Wombridge Church at noon and finished at Hadley Park at 1.30pm.

And the celebration did not end after the procession.

Soul Preachers performed at 10pm and there was karaoke, a disco and after-party. Food was served all day.

The live music went on in Hadley Park from 4pm and 10pm.

The carnival princess for 2015 was Alice Eley with attendants Natasha Sanders, Georgia Skelton and Effie-Rose Hamilton.

Headlining act this year was Oasis tribute band Definitely Mightbe. Also playing was Savannah, winner of last year's Battle of the Bands.

The carnival was relaunched two years ago after a 28-year absence, and last year's event attracted more than 15,000 people from across Telford.

Julian Sanders, current committee chairman, and his team said they worked hard to deliver the best carnival yet this year.
