The American chain will occupy the site of a former Chinese restaurant in Castle Street.

Recruitment is now under way, although it has not been confirmed how many jobs will be created and no date has yet been set for when the outlet will open.

Burger King used to have a large restaurant on Pride Hill that is now occupied by upmarket supermarket giant Waitrose, which took over the vacant lot in 2011.

Alice McNaugher, spokeswoman for Burger King, said: "We can confirm this restaurant will be opening soon."
