Countdown to Shrewsbury Midnight Walk for hospice

There won't be much need of these sunhats when hundreds of women take part in eight kilometre walks for the Severn Hospice.

Around 400 will descend on Shrewsbury for the Severn Hospice's Midnight Walk.

The event on July 11 follows the success of an event in Telford last month that raised tens of thousands of pounds for the hospice.

Armed with torches, those taking part can remember loved ones who they have lost to cancer or simply enjoy the occasion and help a good cause.

Elodie Home, fundraising events manager at Severn Hospice, said: "Our Midnight Walk in Telford was a tremendous success. Everyone involved had a great evening whilst helping to raise a fantastic amount of money to fund the loving care we provide at the hospice.

"I would urge anyone thinking of taking part in our Midnight Walk in Shrewsbury to come along on the night. It really is going to be another fantastic event – over 400 ladies have already registered for the walk and we hope more will join us."

Those wanting to take part in the Shrewsbury Midnight Walk will be able to register on the night, between 11pm and 11.30pm, at Shrewsbury Sports Village, Sundorne Road. Registration will cost £20 per person, which includes a donation to the hospice and commemorative T-shirt.

The first Midnight Walk, which took place at Telford College of Arts and Technology in June, saw more than 370 women step out, raising more than £30,000 for the charity.
