The Church Stretton Library Support Group has revealed it has begun legal proceedings in a bid to have Shropshire Council's decision to move the library to the nearby school quashed.

John Whitelegg, a spokesman for the group, said: "Legal proceedings against Shropshire Council have now started.

"Court papers were served on Thursday. We have asked the court to quash the decision of the council to move the library to the school.

"This is the first stage of a judicial review and involves asking the permission of the court to proceed with a full hearing.

"We do not know the time scale for the preliminary hearing."

The group said action was a "last resort" in its fight against the relocation of the library to Church Stretton school in Shrewsbury Road.
