One of the highlights of carnival day in Bridgnorth was a float and vehicle parade that went through the town and ended up at Severn Park.

Carnival queen Annabelle Pritchard had the honour of riding with the mayor in an open-top car and said it had been a fantastic journey through the town. She said: "The weather was gorgeous, the crowds were amazing and I must have waved to everyone standing along the side of the road."

The parade through the town included floats from Oldbury Wells School, Bridgnorth Rugby Club and Galaxy School of Dance, among others.

Councillor David Cooper, mayor of Bridgnorth, said he was humbled to see so many people together in one place. He said: "This is the third year of us having the carnival since it was revived and it is going from strength to strength, growing in size every year."

The crowds, the narrow streets and the width of some of the vehicles meant the parade had to travel very slowly through the town, but this gave the crowds more time to see the work that had gone into the floats.

Anne Wilson, clerk of Bridgnorth Town Council, said she was delighted to see that this year there were more floats and more people involved in the carnival.

She said: "There is so much community involvement in this event and so many people keen to volunteer to organise it."

Once the parade had reached Severn Park, the floats and vehicles were emptied of their passengers and the live entertainment began.

It included a display by cheerleaders Cheerforce 10, who had earlier won the award for best walking entry in the parade.

Hundreds of visitors watched the displays and further entertainment included a funfair, bouncy castles and at least 20 stalls.

Louise Jensen, 29, from Dawley, was in the park with daughters Freya, aged five, and Hermione, 17 months.

She said: "We were driving past Severn Park and once Freya saw the funfair and all that was going on she wanted to go here. We have really enjoyed it, it's been a great day and we will definitely come back again – but next time I hope my husband isn't working so he can come too."
