Where there's muck there's brass – just ask one Shropshire company that is planning a big expansion.

Half of Britain's wheelie bins originate from a landmark factory unit in the north of Telford.

In fact Craemer produces around one million bins every year from its base on Hortonwood Industrial Estate.

Councils across the county, including Telford & Wrekin, buy up the bins and give them out to residents to dispose of their rubbish.

Now the Craemer group is looking to diversify by inventing new plastic pallets.

Last year, the company completed a £6.5 million investment in its Telford factory and it boasted a turnover of £23 million.

It is looking to expand further to cope with the demand for wheelie bins, together with its other products.

Craemer currently employs around 50 people at Telford, its only UK factory. It has other factories in Slovakia and its headquarters in Germany, plus a sales operation in France –bringing its total headcount to more than 600.

It is now looking to grow its workforce as the new lines bed in.

"As the facility expands then we would look to take more staff," said UK sales director Steve Poppitt. "We would say this is a milestone moment for Craemer UK."
