Letter: A matter which need addressing

I note the concerns of the people of Wem as being lumped in with Shrewsbury and share those concerns.

In matters postal, we in Whixall tend to get associated with Whitchurch, and no matter what the post office management say it absolutely does take longer for post to arrive when the letter bears the identification of "Whitchurch" on the envelope.

Before I started my migration south I lived in Saddleworth which was proudly in the West Riding of Yorkshire before it was land grabbed by Oldham as far back as the government reorganisation of 1972.

Members of the old guard still address correspondence as West Riding of Yorkshire not wishing to relinquish our heritage, and guess what, the post still gets there. Amazing. Similarly nowadays we never give Whitchurch as our postal town only Whixall, and the postcode; not that we dislike Whitchurch, but because we can almost guarantee the post will arrive within 24 hours without that appendage.

That only leaves officialdom which is invariably later; but how much sleep will you loose if your tax demand arrives later than your lottery winnings.

So the answer for all proud Wemians is clear.

Your post will still get to you – even with just your own name and postcode.

Join the Bolsheviks and up the revolution.
