A pub has finally put its sign back in place and signalled it is fully back in business.

For John Hickinbottom, owner of the Cleveland Arms in High Ercall, near Telford, the raising of the sign signals the end of a major refit of his pub.

He said: "We wanted a way to signify that the pub is now fully operational and the raising of the pub sign seemed an appropriate way of doing that. It is also saying thank you to our loyal customers, who have kept this place going."

Mr Hickinbottom and his partner Susan King bought the Cleveland Arms in July 2013.

They have spent £80,000 on the car park, £10,000 on improving the terrace and are currently planning an extension that will effectively double the pub's size.

Mr Hickinbottom, 54, said: "We have replaced the drains, heating system and central heating – in fact there isn't much we haven't changed."

Mr Hickinbottom, an ex-airline pilot, said they had looked at hundreds of pubs before settling on the Cleveland Arms.

The couple are now looking forward to developing it even more in the future.
