The plans for land at the rear of the Acton Arms in Morville include five four-bedroomed houses and two three-bedroomed houses.

Applicants the New River Retail Property Unit Trust have also put money aside to invest in the pub, which is still trading, at a later date.

Martin Hughes, on behalf of the New River, said: "A planning application has been submitted for seven new detached properties on surplus land.

"The whole point of is to move this development forward while making sure the pub has a long-term future.

"The company is even looking to invest in the pub in the future." Mr Hughes said the work would include a new cul-de-sac running from a new junction with the A458.

"The application is currently with the council and we do not have a confirmed committee date as yet.

"This proposal is consistent with Shropshire Council's local plan, which states Morville is an appropriate location for additional housing growth by way of small infill sites and village extensions like this one.

"The site itself has good access to local facilities, so it is in an entirely sustainable location.

"The important thing to note is that the future of the pub is unaffected by the plans.

"There are about 200 applications of this nature in the country at the moment.

"Some have included developments that have seen the pubs turned into convenience stores but the in the vast majority of cases the pubs have been maintained."

Morville Parish Council has objected to the plans claiming the land is prone to flooding and reduction in parking space would lead to traffic problems at the pub.
