The Belmond British Pullman carriages, sister train to the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, brought a touch of glamour to the SVR at the weekend.

The carriages were hauled along the Bridgnorth to Kidderminster line by The Taw Valley, which was the locomotive's first trip along the line following an extensive overhaul.

The Belmond British Pullman carriages were dubbed the "father of luxury train travel" and were a much-admired sight on famous 1920s rail services, including The Brighton Belle and The Golden Arrow.

Many of its individually-named carriages have been used extensively by the Royal Family, while others have carried people including President de Gaulle and Nikita Khrushchev.

Two further carriages even formed part of Winston Churchill's funeral train.

Clare Gibbard, of the SVR, said: "The Belmond British Pullman drew many admiring glances as it into our stations.

"It was a real privilege to welcome this prestige train on such a unique visit to celebrate our 50th anniversary."

Passengers on the luxury train were wined and dined while visitors to the Severn Valley were able to admire the gleaming carriages in all their glory as they made their way along the tracks.

Further events celebrating the SVR's big year include a Sounds of the '60s celebration on August 14 to August 15.
